Effective Director Onboarding Practices

New directors face a steep learning curve, and the pressure to climb quickly is intense. In today’s rapidly changing business environment a new director must be brought up to speed on issues relating to the company and board culture as soon as possible to begin adding value. Effective onboarding practices were the topic of discussion at the February 2015 meeting of NACD’s Nominating and Governance Committee Chair Advisory Council. At the meeting cohosted by Heidrick & Struggles and Sidley Austin, committee chairs and lead directors from Fortune 500 companies shared their experiences and lessons learned from their current and previous board and executive roles.
