2016-2017 NACD Private Company Data Summary: Family Business Boards
In Brief: This supplementary report to the 2016–2017 NACD Private Company Governance Survey provides a summary of the information provided by those respondents that serve the boards of family businesses. This includes those businesses in which a majority ownership stake is held by members of a single family. The responses for all survey questions are presented in tabular format, and to assist in the interpretation of the data, we have used color gradients to highlight frequently selected responses.
How Boards Can Use this Resource:
- Identify areas for improvement in current governance practices, including board composition, structure, succession planning and risk oversight;
- Review data on common sources of conflict for family boards, and how they are being addressed.
- Benchmark your board’s strategic priorities against those of other family business boards
Relevant Audiences: Family business leaders, board members, and family members who work for and/or own shares in the company.
